What is direct primary care?
Direct primary care (DPC) is just that - care that occurs directly between you and your doctor.
DPC is an innovative, patient-centered model that aims to remove much of the administrative burden and costs associated with insurance billing to place renewed emphasis on the patient-physician relationship.
The traditional fee-for-service model has historically had many limitations for patient care. To meet the overhead costs of running a practice, offices are challenged to fit as many patients as possible into a day - many times resulting in limited face-to-face time for patients with their doctor, more referrals to specialists than necessary, and significant wait times for appointments.
DPC allows patients improved access to a physician that knows their health history with increased time for and flexibility within the patient-physician relationship, often with significantly reduced costs and transparent pricing. Rather than fitting a high number of patients onto the schedule, DPC physicians have a panel of patients that subscribe to their care on a monthly basis. This allows physicians the freedom to care for their patients in a flexible way - be it by text, call, or video visit and improved access to same and next-day care.
